Policies of the HMS Media Center
Students may use the Media Center during the school day. They
are scheduled to visit the Media Center each week with their language
arts class. This time should be used to search for books, check them out, and return or renew books. The time may also be used to take Accelerated Reader quizzes, to read, or to do research. Students are welcome to use the Media Center at other times during the day, with the permission of their classroom teachers. If they come alone, or with a small group, they must have their agenda, and the agenda must be signed by the classroom teacher when they leave. They must present the agenda to a member of the Media Center staff when they enter the room. It is signed, and the time of arrival is noted. If a student fails to be on task during the time that they are in the Media Center, they may be asked to leave.
Most students are allowed to have two items checked out at a time. Students who have demonstrated that they return material on time, and take responsible care of material, may be allowed to check out three items at a time. Students who routinely return material late, or damage or lose material, are put into a category where they allowed to have only one item checked out at a time.
Books are checked out for two weeks at a time. They may be renewed one time. A few titles which are very popular may not be renewed.
Periodicals (magazines) may be checked our for three days. The issues that may be checked out are those which are not current. The current issues are kept for use only in the Media Center.
Students will be charged for material which is lost or damaged. They are not allowed to check out material if they owe a fine, or have items which are overdue.
Students must have a current ID or their agenda to check out. If the ID is damaged it any way, it may not be used. The barcode in the agenda must not be damaged, or separated from the agenda.
"Why do I read?
I just can't help myself.
I read to learn and grow,
to laugh and to be motivated."
